Born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, January 28, 1814. In 1843. he located at West Point, Lee County, Iowa, and there engaged in the practice of law, having been admitted to the bar of Pennsylvania at Harrisburg in 1841. He served in the Legislature during the time he was a resident of West Point, and introduced the bill creating Keokuk a half shire town. In December, 1846, he removed to Keokuk, resided here until 1851, when he purchased a farm in Des Moines Township, this county, and resided there until November 1866, when he returned to Keokuk. Mr. Cochran married Elizabeth Chambers, May 19, 1844.
