Born April 9, 1807, in St. Johnsbury, Caledonia County, Vermont. He was married to Phoebe Stoddard in Farmington, Iowa, in 1851. He was a lawyer and represented Van Buren County as a Councilor at the First and Second Legislative Assemblies of the Iowa Territory from 1838 to 1840. He was nominated by the governor and confirmed by the Legislative Council as Brigadier General of the 1st Brigade, 1st Division, Iowa Militia, January 18, 1839, in preparation for a battle with Missouri over boundaries, maneuvering them on the plains of Iowa. Later, Ezekiel A.M. Swasey was commissioned Captain, Union Army, December 15, 1862, for the Civil War but died at Farmington, January 3, 1863. He was in the 37th Infantry, Company C, known as the Greybeards. He died in Farmington, Van Buren County, in 1863.
