Born 1813 in Ohio. Mr. Shelby served Van Buren County in the 7th and 8th Territorial Assemblies. He was a lawyer and a school teacher throughout his life, and a judge advocate general for ten years. He married Emiline Blackburn on October 18, 1842. Mr. Shelby passed away on March 29, 1871, at the age of 57 in Logan County, Ohio. He was known as a leader in the Democratic party as well as a respectful and courteous leader in the community.
