Born December 2, 1795, in Ohio. Mr. Whitmore married Miss Elizabeth Shuss on September 15, 1816, in Harrison County Ohio. He came to Iowa in 1842 from Ohio, where he had amassed a considerable amount of property in contracting work on canals. In 1844, Mr. Whitmore was a delegate to the Iowa Constitutional Convention in Iowa City representing Jefferson County. He was also elected to the State Legislature serving in the First and Fourth General Assemblies, 1846 and 1852. Mr. Whitmore died October 18, 1867, at Batavia, Jefferson County, Iowa.
