Born June 9, 1828 in Greene County, Illinois, and died February 12, 1907. Mr. Allen is buried in Monroe County, Iowa. He was married to Mary McKissick (1829-1894). Mr. Allen was a farmer by trade. He was elected to represent Monroe County in the Fourth Iowa General Assembly 1852-1854. He was appointed the first school fund commissioner of the county by the board of county commissioners at its session on the first Monday of September; 1849. The first “inn” in the county was that of Henry Allen, a little unpretentious house standing on the southeast corner of the Albia square. The old log court house stood north of Allen’s Hotel.
