Farmer and stock-raiser, was born in Ferrisburg, Vermont, on the 26th day of January, 1817, son of Jabez and Martha (Edgerton) Hyde, who emigrated to what is now the state of Iowa in 1856. In 1841 he married Emma Rowe, daughter of Christopher Rowe, of Bath, Steuben Co., N. Y. Mr. Hyde has held several local offices of trust in the township; was elected town bidder in an early day, and at one time had all the east of Davenport under his bids. In 1852 was elected to the state Legislature, and also has held the office of magistrate for 10 years. Mr. Hyde has been identified with the county for nearly a half century; came when the prairies looked as if no white man had ever put foot upon them; not a cabin could be seen as far as the eye could reach.
