Eli Snow Wing was born on July 21, 1811, in Wilton, Franklin, Maine, the son of Nathan Wing and Love Frost. On January 4, 1846, he married Minerva Diana Martin in Davenport, Iowa. During the Civil War, Wing served in Company A of the 4th Iowa Infantry. He also served in public office, representing Scott County in the Fourth Iowa General Assembly as a senator in 1852 and later in the Sixth Iowa General Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives in 1856.  He was a farmer and a member of the Scott County Agricultural Society. Wing died in November 1870 in Davenport.
