Born in Wales in the year 1800. At the age of two years his parents removed with him to this country and settled in Utica, New York. In 1832, he removed to Crawford County, Pennsylvania, thence in 1846 to Mercer, County Pennsylvania, and in the year 1850 to his place near Andrew. He was a farmer possessing a good degree of intelligence and knowledge of the resources of the country and his abilities were appreciated by his acquaintances. He filled the office of Justice of the Peace for several years, and in the year 1854-6 was chosen to represent Jones and Jackson counties in the Legislature. He was constant in private and public life in the encouragement of education and moral reforms.
