Born July 19, 1817, in Ohio. He removed to Iowa early in the '50's. He was an ardent anti-slavery man, and for a long time was an energetic worker in the underground railway. He represented Jefferson county in the lower house of the legislature in 1856, and has held the office of justice of the peace and other minor positions in his township. He was married to Almedia Williams, October 11, 1840, in Logan County, Ohio.
