Born September 5, 1823, in St. Lawrence County, New York, and died December 21st, 1867, in Santa Cruz, California. He was admitted to the bar as an Attorney at Law at Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1851. He removed from Michigan to Clarke County Iowa in 1858, and was elected a Representative in the fall of 1856, from that county to the State Legislature for two years. He was a Mason. In politics he was a Democrat. He was married October 13, 1856 to his wife Betsy Poland in Grandville, Michigan.
