Martin Thompson was born in 1824 in Marion County, Indiana. He came to Lee County in 1837 and was a resident for 37 years before moving to Harvey County, Kansas, in 1879 to live with his daughter. He was a member of the Christian church for 25 years and a member of the Hiram Lodge No. 7, A. F. & A. M. at Augusta, Iowa. He was a farmer and a miller.
