Born in Rhode Island, August 15, 1809. He married Miss Sarah Kimball, of New London County, Conn., in April, 1819. Immediately after his marriage he started for Iowa, reaching Iowa Township in May. Mr. Green was elected to the Territorial Legislature of Iowa in 1846; but a State constitution having been adopted, another election was held for State officers, and he was elected to the State Legislature. He served two years, and was again elected in 1852. In 1859 he as elected to the State Senate. He was County Commissioner for one term, previous to his election as senator. Mr. Green has served frequently as administrator of estates and as guardian for minors. He was an extensive farmer and acquired a large fortune through industry and good management. The erection of a new Congregational Church at Miles was due largely to the energy and liberality of Mr. Green.
