Born July 22, 1819, in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, the son of Paul Custer and Mary Garver. He married Catherine E. Chambers and they had 8 children. He moved to Iowa from Indiana about 1855. He was a farmer from New Sharon, Iowa. He was elected and served in the House of Representatives for the 9th General Assembly (1862-1863). He died February 9, 1903, in Cowley County, Kansas.
