Born in New York City, February 2, 1828. Mr. Sanderson was of English descent, and a man of more than ordinary scholastic attainments, having completed a full college course and a course in law. For a number of years he followed the profession of a teacher, having been at one time at the head of the public schools of LeClaire, in Scott county, which county he later represented in the state legislature in the Tenth General Assembly, 1864. Before taking up his college work Mr. Sanderson had mastered the cabinet maker and builder's trades. Mr. Sanderson was united in marriage with Miss Catherine O. Warren April 15, 1863, at Scott county, Iowa. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
