Born October 15, 1825. He was for several years a merchant in Richmond and made a good deal of money there. He was also a local press correspondent. He was an enthusiast but in business he never let sentiment cloud is judgment. He was an ardent prohibitionist a most zealous Baptist, an enthusiastic Mason, and a boiling Old Settler. In 1877 he was largely instrumental in organizing the Old Settlers Association and was always it secretary. He served one term in the Tenth Iowa legislature and had also been a member of the board of supervisors of Washington County. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
