Born August 28, 1831, in North Carolina. By 1850 he was a farmer living in Morgan County, Indiana, where he married Eliza Roberts in 1856. By 1860 they had moved to Dallas County, Iowa, and had five children. He later was remarried to Eleanor J. Preston in 1881 and had three children. He was a member of the House from Dallas County in the 10th General Assembly.
