Born in New Hampshire in 1817 and moved to New York, in 1839. He then removed to Keokuk, Iowa, in 1855 and settled in Jones Co., this State, same year. He was engaged in farming and milling for 14 years. In 1868, he represented Jones County in Legislature. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for Jones County for eight years and then settled in Earlville in 1869. He was married in 1843 to Miss Mary A. Austin, from New York. His wife died in 1849 and he married again to Mrs. Mandana Gordon from New Hampton, N. H.
