Born May 10, 1814, in the town of Euclid, Ohio. His youth was spent in a new country where educational advantages were few, but he successfully overcame this handicap by self-culture, was converted in 1840 and in 1841 began preaching the gospel, being admitted to the Rock River conference in 1842. His first charge was the Freeport circuit, and his last in that conference was in Chicago in 1848. In 1850 he came to Iowa and settled near West Union, moving there a year later. He held a number of county offices, and was elected to the State Senate in 1863, serving through two sessions. In 1864 he came to Fayette. When he came here he bought the Fayette House and was it's landlord for some time. The offices of justice of the peace, member of the board of supervisors and mayor of the town for two terms fell to him during his early residence here. He was a member of the board of trustees of Upper Iowa University from its incipiency and for twelve year he was President of the Board. Rev. Brunson was married to Miss Jane McCool, in Freeport, Ill., on March 6, 1845. Five daughters and. a son were born to them. Source: The Iowa Post Card, Fayette, Iowa, December 14, 1905.
