Born in Brownsville, Tenn., December 6, 1827, and lived there until 8 years of age. He removed to Illinois in 1836, and lived there nine years, then removed to Iowa City. He lived in Johnson and Linn Counties for three years. He was appointed Clerk in the First Auditor's Office of the Treasury Department while there. Mr. Henderson studied law and was admitted to the bar in August, 1852, and in 1853, he entered the practice of his profession in partnership with Hon. G. W. Pleasant. In September, 1856, he came to Marshalltown, and practiced his profession, except two years when he was editor and proprietor of the Marshall County Times, In 1863, he was elected to the State Senate, and held that office four years. In 1864, he was Presidential Elector, and cast one eighth of the vote of the State for Lincoln and Johnson. He married Miss lanthe Fuller, of Stark County, Illinois, June 12, 1850. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
