Born in 1830 in Elkhart, Indiana, and emigrated to Greene County, Iowa. He practiced law in Jefferson for a number of years then removed to Tallahassee, Florida in 1874. Mr. Rippey was united in married to Miss Addie F. Klein November 19, 1868, at Kosciusko, Indiana. He enlisted May 19, 1864, in the 46th Iowa Infantry attaining rank of Major. He was mustered out June 10, 1864. He was elected to represent Greene County in the Twelfth General Assembly, 1868. He was a Democrat but during the war acted with the Republicans.
