Born in Strafford, New Hampshire, August 1, 1829. He was married to Salone E. Fowler at Springfield, Illinois, October 6, 1852. He had moved west settling in Springfield in 1843. He studied law in Illinois and was admitted to the bar at Freeport, Illinois, October 13, 1851. He came to Black Hawk county in 1854, where for a number of years he was one of Waterloo's leading legal practitioners. Mr. Ordway represented Black Hawk county in the Twelfth General Assembly, 1868. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
