Born in Windham County, Vermont, August 23, 1820. He moved to Rock County, Wisconsin, in May, 1840, and resided there until February, 1852, when he came to Auburn Township, Fayette County, Iowa. He lived there until March, 1855, when he came to West Union. During the time he was in Auburn, he was engaged in the manufacture of lumber; since then, he has been engaged in the farming, mercantile and real estate business. For several years he was a member of the Board of Supervisors. Mr. Bent was a member of the 12th General Assembly in 1868 and 1869. His first wife was Eleanora Robinson and she died February of 1857. His present wife is Mrs. Sarah J. Atwood (sister of first wife). Mr. Bent is a member of the M. E. Church.
