Born in Ireland in 1829. He came to Iowa when he was twenty-four years old. He was a lawyer, winning many friends at the bar and among his fellow-citizens. He was elected a State Senator from Dubuque county in 1869 and served in the Thirteenth General Assembly, but before the meeting of the Fourteenth he passed away. He took an active part in legislative proceedings, was a ready speaker, and participated often in debate. He was a democrat in politics, a Roman Catholic in religion, courteous in bearing, genial and sparkling in conversation. In the Fourteenth General Assembly fitting eulogies were paid to his memory.
