Born in Ohio May 8,1844. He came to Van Buren county, Iowa, when a young man. Leaving college at Evanston, he entered the Union army, locating near Albia at the close of the war. Here he was engaged in the grain and stock business. Nineteen years ago he moved his family to Des Moines. He was a banker. Mr. Elbert was a member of the Masonic Order. He represented Monroe County in the Thirteenth Iowa General Assembly, 1870.
