Born in New York on 1824. He married Caroline Gilmore on June 14, in Dubuque and had 3 children. Caroline Gilmore was born in Ohio on 1828. The village of Hardin was surveyed in January, 1854 and another addition was made in 1858 by David Dickerson and C. E. Dickerson. David Dickerson was the operator of one of the general stores in Hardin. He was the postmaster from 1861 to 1867 with the post office in his store.
