Born in Tompkins County, New York October 25th, 1828. In the year 1840, with his father's family he came west and settled in Rock county, Wis., where he lived until 1869, when he moved to Butler county, this state, and two years later he located in Spencer. His early life was spent on his father's farm, and later, for some years, he pursued the profession of teaching, after which for several years he engaged in the practice of law. The fall of 1874 he was elected to represent this district in the Iowa legislature, and was reelected two years later. In 1879 he was appointed deputy auditor, and two years later was elected to that office, which position he continued to hold for eight successive years. He held the office of Justice of the Peace and was a member of the School Board and its Secretary. Mr. Wood has been married twice. His first marriage occurred in November 1853 to Miss Margaret E. Richards, who died a great many years ago. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Julia Carr. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
