Born in Wheeling county, Virginia, November 9, 1799. He removed thence to Muskingum county, Ohio, in 1832, where he remained until 1853 when he became a resident of Iowa and lived in the State twenty-two years during which time he was three times elected a member of the Legislature. In 1875 he came to California and has since made Gridley his home. Ordained a the age of twenty-five he was a circuit rider in the interest of Methodism.
