Born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, March 11, 1833, and died at his home in Galvin, Iowa, February 5, 1899. He removed to Iowa in the fifties. In 1859 he married Mary Ringland, a descendant of a veteran of the American Revolution. They had four sons. He first settled in Bangor township but for the last thirty-five years had resided nine miles northwest of Marshalltown, where in 1881 a post office called Galvin was established at his house. The office of postmaster was held by Mr. Moninger up to the time of his death. He was one of the oldest and best known residents of Marshall county, and had a reputation throughout the State as a fine stock breeder, his specialty being Shorthorn cattle. He won a sweepstakes prize at the International Fat Stock Show in Chicago He also represented Marshall county in the Fifteenth General Assembly.
