Mr. Miller was born in 1845 near Brownville, Pa. He enlisted in the 12th West Virginia Infantry, leaving Waynesboro college which he had entered the year before. He served nearly three years, six months of which he spent as a prisoner in Anderson and Florence prisons. Never very strong, his health was weakened further by the prison experience. After the war he completed his course at college and published the Waynesboro Republican and later the Sac City Sun of Iowa with which he was connected for 20 years. He served one term in the legislature and was appointed postmaster. In 1892 he moved to Des Moines and later served on the city council. He moved to Oklahoma in 1902 and to Wichita in 1907. He is well known for his activity in the G.A.R. He was active in the Presbyterian and Congregational churches.
