Born in Franklin County, Ohio, August 11, 1818. He moved at the age of 18 with his parents to Warsaw, Illinois. He came to Muscatine in 1839 where he engaged in the plastering trade until 1857 at which time he took up farming. He was elected Sheriff of the county in 1853, which office he held four years. Mr. McCloud was elected to the Legislature in 1872, and served two years. He was united in married to Miss Phoebe Chattaway July 18, 1849. Mr. McCloud was a member of the I. O. O. F., and a member of the M. E. Church. He was a republican in politics.
