Born in Ohio on the 28th of February, 1837, and who is now practicing law in Seattle, Washington. He is the eldest of the family; read law with Judge J. Hilsinger and after being admitted to the bar was elected to the Iowa legislature for two terms. Later he served as chairman of the Iowa state republican central committee for one term and was then made United States marshal for the northern district of Iowa with headquarters at Dubuque.
