Born in Scotland in 1824. He received the advantages of a good education and was engaged in the loan business until he came to the United States. Mr. Archer came to Keokuk County in 1855, and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He represented Keokuk County in the Fourteenth General Assembly of the State Legislature and served with credit to his constituents and honor to himself. He married Miss Marjory E. Bannerman in 1854. Mrs. Archer was a native of Scotland. They have two children. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Archer died March 9, 1892, and is buried in South English Cemetery, Keokuk County, Iowa.
