Born in Mason county, Ky., February 14, 1827, and died at his home in Garden Grove , Iowa , February 20, 1902 . His early years were spent on a farm and later he worked for a time at the carpenter's trade. He served one year in the Mexican war, in Capt. Morgan's company of mounted dragoons. In 1857 he removed to Wayne county, where he remained for three years. Mr. Morgan was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Arnold, February 16, 1859, in Garden Grove Iowa. In 1861 he settled in Decatur county, where he eventually acquired about 800 acres of land. He was at one time justice of the peace. During the period of the civil war he was a member of the Board of Supervisors and was instrumental in expending for public improvements the swamp land money recovered by the county. He was a member of the House of Representatives of the 15th and 16th General Assemblies.
