Born in Ohio March 21st, 1823. Mr. Benton came to this state with his parents in 1842, and at the age of 19 years took his place among that sturdy class of pioneers. Here he lived and worked with them in the building of this community, and has taken his part in the. issues of the day, having represented this county in the 16th General Assembly of the Legislature for a term of two years '76 and '77, and. in other capacities was honored and respected among his fellows. Mr. Benton never married. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
