Born in Norway in 1820. Mr. Nelson left Norway in 1849,came to America and located in Wisconsin. He stayed there for 10 years, then came to Winneshiek County. He was married in 1860 to Miss Jane Munson, a native or Norway. He taught the first school in his house. He was the first Norwegian Representative in the Iowa Legislature serving in the Ninth and Tenth General Assemblies, 1862, 64.
