Born May 11, 1833, in Otsego County, N. Y. He is the son of Simeon and Polly Evans. In the spring of 1856, he came to this county, first locating in West Liberty, where he kept a meat market; afterward in the lumber business two years, prior to coming on his present farm in 1873. He married Flora M. Barnes August 4, 1860. He is a member of Mt. Calvary Lodge, No. 95, at West Liberty, of which he has served as Worshipful Master. Mr. Evans is a Republican.
