Son of Christian and Barbara Kegler and from was born June 17, 1843, at Elbingen, Nassau, Germany, coming to America and this county in 1853. In 1869 he was married to Katherine Lehmkuhl and they moved to this city the following year. He was married a second time, to Katherine Herbst, in 1883. Mr. Kegler was a man firm in his beliefs and convictions and did his duty as he saw it. For that reason, his party chose him to represent this senatorial district in the 22d and 23d General Assemblies and justified the faith of the electors.
