Born in Franklin County, Mass., July 8, 1834. He came as a young man to central Illinois when that country was considered that far west. Mr. Field settled on a farm near Shenandoah in 1868. He was a member of the State legislature in 1888 and 1890, a civil war veteran and one of the chief promoters of the Western Normal College established in 1882. He also took a prominent part in organizing the Congregational church of Shenandoah. He was married to Celesta Eastman. His interest throughout his long and successful career was centered about and directed toward the upbuilding of the city and state as well as in establishing a home and rearing a large family.
