Born October 23, 1832, in Derry, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, and remained with his parents until he became of age. He then went to Massachusetts and taught school in Peabody for two years. He emigrated from there to Illinois, locating in Kewanee, Henry County, where he entered the dry-goods and grocery house of Lytle & Terry. He remained with this firm for two years, when he embarked in business for himself, forming a partnership with C. J. T. and C. F. Lytle, under the name of Lytle, Perkins & Co., which partnership continued for about two years, when Mr. Perkins withdrew and again went to clerking, this time for James L. Platt, and remained with him for seven years, at the expiration of which time he engaged in farming and raising hedge plants. In this business he formed a partnership with G. N. Palmer under the firm name of Palmer & Perkins, the firm existing four years. On the 1st of May, 1871, Mr. Perkins immigrated to Fremont County, Iowa. He now owns one section of land, which is finely improved. He is also a large stock feeder, and raises a great amount of corn for that purpose. Mr. Perkins represented Fremont County in the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Iowa General Assemblies, 1890-92. He was married July 13, 1857, to Miss Ellen E. Lytle, a native of Wethersfield, Henry County, Illinois. Mr. Perkins has been a member of the board of supervisors one term.
