To fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Baldwin the Democrats of Dubuque county selected Robert Bonson. a young man who was born and raised in the county, to represent them in the Senate of the Twenty-sixth General Assembly. He was born on a farm near Dubuque January 5, 1868, and on taking his seat as a member of the Senate will be just 28 years of age, and is the youngest Senator. As a boy he attended the public schools of Dubuque. Later he went to the State University of Iowa, from the law department of which he graduated in 1890. This was supplemented by a course in the law department of Columbia College of the city of New York. Since leaving that institution he has been practicing in Dubuque. He was raised a Republican, but left that party, as he could not agree with its policies in regard to the liquor and tariff questions. He would like to see the prohibition and mulet laws removed from the statute books and a license law substituted therefore. Mr. Bonson has splendid ability as a speaker, and will be a very active member on the Democratic side this winter.
