Education

Graduated from La Salle High School, Newhall, in 1998. Received B.A. degrees from Mount Mercy College (now University) in journalism and political science in 2005.

Memberships and Activities

Former member of the Hiawatha City Council from 2016 to 2025. Is the first openly transgender woman elected to the Iowa Legislature. Member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 137 and author of a novel, “The Butterfly and the Flame” (2011). Has contributed to The Real Mainstream as a journalist and columnist.

Born in 1979 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Raised in Newhall and resides in Hiawatha.
