One of the few native Iowans of the senate is the young senator from Dubuque. A rather remarkable feature of his election last fall is, that he is of the same profession, about the same age, of the same political party, and the same town as his predecessor, Hon. Robert Bonson. He is the youngest senator of the Twenty-seventh General Assembly, born at Ossian, Winneshiek county, Iowa, November 7, 1869. He is a son of the late James Malloy of Ossian, who served as postmaster of that town during Cleveland's first administration, and he was several times mayor of Ossian. Senator Malloy received his rudimentary education in the public school of his native town. Having a taste for the legal profession, and an inclination for the practice of it, he entered the State university and was graduated from the law department with high honors in the class of '95. Since that time he has been in the active practice of law in Dubuque, and for so young a professional man enjoys an enviable quality and quantity of clients. He is a staunch democrat, and took an active part in the 1896 and 1897 campaigns as a political speaker. The democrats of Dubuque county last fall honored him with election to the senate. Senator Malloy is a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He is a bachelor.
