One of the most popular hold-over senators is the Hon. G. S. Gilbertson, of Forest City, who represents the counties of Mitchell, Worth and Winnebago, in the upper house. The Twenty-sixth General Assembly and its extra session brought out much of the steadfastness and ability of Senator Gilbertson. who, not a conspicuous talker, was felt and recognized in all committee work. He is a man who has made his own way in a business life, and that his success has been great is evidenced by his business interests. Senator Gilbertson is president of the Buffalo Center State bank, at Buffalo Center; cashier Forest City National bank, at Forest City; secretary Forest City Land and Abstract company: overseer and publisher of the Winnebago Summit, oldest paper in the county; proprietor and publisher of the Thompson Courier, at Thompson. He has held several county offices, city treasurer of Forest City from 1886 to 1896, clerk district court of Winnebago county from January, 1889 to 1896, secretary board of education of Forest City from 1889 to 1896. His official career has been one of exceptional excellence. His record in the senate was clean, conservative, and in every way worthy of the trust reposed in him by the republicans of his district. Senator Gilbertson had an arduous duty, especially in the extra session, as chairman of the committee on enrolling bills, which position he filled with great credit to himself and committee. He was identified with the committees on appropriations, suppression of intemperance, banks, compensation of public officers, elections, corporations and code revision. He was born at Spring Grove, Houston county, Minn., October 17, 1863. He came to Iowa in 1879. He was married to Miss Belle D. Whitney August 29, 1889. They have two little girls, Iva S., and Gladys L. Senator Gilbertson is interested in all matters of conservative legislation, and possesses the business ability of looking after his share of it. That he devotes his time, with his many interests in life, to political affairs, should be a matter of congratulation to his constituents.
