Born in Jo Daviess county, Illinois, October 4, 1850. His parents were James and Mary (Eakin) Lister. His early education was obtained in the common schools in Illinois. Afterwards he attended the Iowa State University, where he was admitted to the bar in June, 1881. In 1882 he located in Sibley, Iowa, where he has since been engaged in the practice of his profession. He is a republican. He was justice of the peace, a member of town council and school board of Sibley, and county attorney of Osceola county. He was state senator for the Forty-ninth district during the Twenty-eighth and Twenty-ninth general assemblies. For twenty-eight years he has been one of our most prominent and successful citizens. Mr. Lister was married to Sedalia Phillips in Sibley on September 15, 1886. Since 1879 he has been an active member of the Methodist Church.
