To succeed the Hon. John Downey, Lee county last fall elected the Hon. David A. Young of Argyle, as senator from that district. Senator Young was elected by the democrats, in which party he is an earnest worker. He is a native of Illinois, born at Burnside, January 16, 1852. He is a son of the Rev. William Young. He was married to Miss Sarah J. Wright, October 1, 1872. They have one child. Senator Young has been a resident of Iowa for thirty-seven years, identified with its progress and its best interests. He is extensively engaged in farming and stock-raising. He has never sought public office and this is his first experience in serving the state other than as an honorable and honored citizen. Locally he has held the position of justice of the peace two terms. He is a member of the Baptist church. Lee county is entirely democratic this session, and represented by three of its best citizens, of whom Senator Young is one. While he is not especially interested in any one matter of legislation, he comes to the senate prepared to serve his constituents ably and faithfully in everything that will be of benefit to their interests.
