Howard and Winneshiek counties will have a democratic representation in the senate this session. If he brings any of the breeze and vim of his native city into his senatorial career, then his presence will be noticeable aside from his personal qualities. Senator D. A. Lyons of Cresco, is a native of Illinois, born in Chicago, September 8, 1851. He is of Irish extraction, and possessed of all the wide-awake characteristics of that race. He was married to Miss Catherine Fitzgerald, September 25, 1876, and to them have been born six children, four boys, and two girls. They are members of the Catholic church. Senator Lyons has been a resident of this state thirty-two years. He came to this state thirty-two years ago with his parents, from Chicago, and lived on a farm in the northern part of Winneshiek county till 1872. Since that time he has lived in Cresco, extensively engaged in the implement business. He has the largest business of that line in northeastern Iowa. He has served his town two terms as mayor, efficiently, and with satisfaction. He has always been active in the politics of his county, and entered into the democratic campaigns with much of the vigorous spirit inherited from his ancestors. He wants, above all things, honest legislation, and comes to the senate ready to help all interests in that direction.
