Representative from Muscatine county, was born in Louisa county in 1858 and came with his parents to Muscatine county when six years of age. His education was acquired in the country schools, supplemented by a thorough course of home study. He secured a teacher's certificate and after teaching school for a few terms invested the money thus earned in a small portion of what is now known as Evergreen Farm, situated on the beautiful Muscatine Island, famous for its melons and sweet potatoes. He has held the offices of secretary and treasurer of the school board, assessor and member of the board of supervisors. He is an active member of several fraternal orders, including K. of P., K.O.T.M., M.W.A. and C. of H. Elected Representative in 1906. A Republican in politics.
