J. WARREN STEWART Representative from Washington county. Born of American-born parents in Dearborn county, Indiana. Came to Louisa county March, 1856; lived there until September, 1865, moving with his father's family to Washington county. Worked on farm until May 1, 1867, then started with two companions and a four-mule team for the Pacific coast, spending two years in Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Returned to Iowa May, 1869. Broke prairie during the summer, attended academy and commercial school in Iowa City during winter of 1869 and 1870. Commenced buying and shipping stock from Ainsworth, Iowa, fall of 1870, and worked there until May, 1872. Came to Keota, fed, shipped and handled stock ever since. Was married to Naomi Stoutner in 1875 and built a home across the line in Washington county, where he still lives. Elected Representative in 1906. A Democrat in politics.
