Representative from Mills county. Born at Guilford, Piscataquis county, Maine, of English descent. He acquired his education in the common school, Faxcroft Academy and the State University of Wisconsin and attended Bryant & Stratton's Commercial College in Chicago. In 1857 he went to Illinois and from there to Madison, Wisconsin, to the university. He attended and taught school for several years. In 1861 he married Miss Apphia Trask, a native of Maine. In 1864 he located on a farm in Livingston county, Illinois, where he continued to live for thirteen years. While there he was elected supervisor ten times and held the office of justice of the peace for twelve years. In 1880 he moved to Silver City, Iowa, where he engaged in the grain and lumber business. In 1889 he took his son, C. D. Greenwood, into the business and has continued in the lumber business to the present date. In 1883 he was one of the incorporators of the Silver City State Bank and was its first president and has held that position ever since. Elected Representative in 1906. A Republican in politics.
