Representative from Jackson county. Born in Ireland. He came with his parents to America in 1847 and settled in Ulster county, New York, where he began life on his own account. He came to Iowa in 1855 and in 1860 he married and settled on a farm in Clinton county, on which farm he still lives. In August, 1862, he enlisted in Company A, Twenty-fourth Iowa Infantry, and served three years. After the war he continued farming until 1881, when he moved to Miles, Jackson county, and entered the implement business and continued in the same until 1905, when he retired. He has been mayor for several terms and a member of the council and treasurer of the city. He has served on the school board for sixteen years, several years as its president. He has served as president of the Jackson and Clinton Counties Farmers' Mutual Aid Insurance Company for four terms. Elected Representative in 1906. A Republican in politics.
